Around the world, surveillance cameras often capture intriguing phenomena by chance that defy immediate explanation. Many times, these devices record events that go unnoticed at the moment they occur or happen so abruptly and in such a short span of time that they cannot be witnessed directly by anyone present.
That’s exactly what happened in Mongolia on July 23.
Among the most fascinating phenomena ever observed is the so-called ball lightning, a rare form of atmospheric electrical discharge that appears as a glowing sphere, floating or moving sometimes in the air, sometimes near the ground, before vanishing suddenly. Despite historical accounts and modern recordings, ball lightning remains a mystery of physics, with its origin and behavior still not fully understood.
Recently, a home security camera in Mongolia captured a strange “luminous energy” that initially descends from the sky as a flash of light and, as it approaches the ground, takes the shape of a sphere. It then begins to roll across the ground from side to side until disappearing from the camera’s field of view.
The video raises the question: what did the camera really capture? Are we witnessing a rare case of ball lightning or a possible UAP?
The incident occurred on the night of July 23 in the city of Chifeng, Mongolia, according to the website secretchina. An outdoor security camera at a residence captured a large fireball descending from the sky. The object appeared to move on its own and even “rolled” erratically, emitting a peculiar sound. That night, the residents heard the noise and went outside to check but found nothing. It was only after reviewing the footage that they clearly saw the large luminous sphere rolling from side to side and producing unusual sounds.
Mr. Wang, the homeowner, reported that at the time, his family heard a sound outside and went to investigate but found nothing unusual. Only upon examining the security camera footage did they notice a flash in the shape of a sphere.

But was it ball lightning or a possible UAP?
Well, it’s impossible to say for sure. The behavior characteristics suggest it might be ball lightning, but due to the very limited number of records and the scarce knowledge about this phenomenon, it’s difficult to give a definitive verdict.
The luminous object sparked heated discussions online, according to an article from epochtimes. Internet users said: “This must be ball lightning.” “Ball lightning, nicknamed the rolling thunder, can’t be avoided when you encounter it, because as you run, the airflow follows it.”
Many users left comments saying they had seen the phenomenon before:
“This kind of lightning is very loud. When my daughter wasn’t born yet, it was raining and the windows weren’t closed. It exploded right on my windowsill. It was very loud.”
“I saw it when I was a child. It was floating around the flagpole in the schoolyard. It was a ball of light. Then it exploded with a snap.”
“I’ve seen this before. There were more than ten people working on both sides of a room. Then there was a thunderclap, and I saw a fireball shoot directly (not roll) into the middle of the room. After that, there was a bang, and only a yellow circle remained on the floor.”
“My family also went through this. A fireball entered through the window during a storm. We were still young back then, and my mother held us in her arms to protect us. Later, it flew and hit someone in the village.”

The footage of the supposed ball lightning or UAP presents characteristics that draw attention and raise questions about its exact nature. The luminous object descends from the sky like a flash, takes on a spherical shape as it approaches the ground, and then rolls across the ground before disappearing. This behavior closely resembles classic descriptions of the phenomenon known as ball lightning, which manifests as a luminous sphere with erratic movement and short duration, still poorly understood by science.
On the other hand, some features of the video, such as the speed and unpredictable behavior of the sphere, are also consistent with UAPs, which exhibit unusual movements.
Given this, it is not possible to say for certain whether the recorded phenomenon is a rare case of ball lightning or a possible UAP. The scarcity of data and limited knowledge about both phenomena make it difficult to reach a definitive verdict. However, the video is a valuable record that can contribute to the study and understanding of these still little-explored phenomena in science.
