“Flying discs exist!” declared newspaper headlines of the 1950s and 60s. At that time, the term UFO was seldom used, and reports focused on disc-shaped objects, the most famous being Kenneth Arnold’s classic sighting.
It was not a strict rule, but objects with these shapes were popular and captured the public imagination, with magazines and films featuring UFO models with this aerodynamic design on their covers.
However, reports of objects in a wide variety of shapes and sizes have occurred since the modern era of ufology. Disc-shaped, cylindrical, spherical, elliptical, and even those without a defined form—some of which change their appearance and shape.
The Metamorphs and Amorphous UFOs
But what are metamorphic UFOs? And what does it mean for a UFO to be amorphous?
The most commonly used term to describe these types of objects is “metamorph.” Metamorphs are structures and/or objects (which can be points of light, energy, plasma, etc.) that exhibit a particularly intriguing anomalous feature: the ability to change their color, shape, and appearance, much like an aerial metamorphosis.
As far as we know, all metamorphic UFOs are amorphous, but not all amorphous UFOs are metamorphs. Amorphous UFOs are unidentified flying objects with an indecipherable form that defies known patterns. The word “amorphous” comes from the Greek “a-” (without) and “morphē” (form), and is used to describe something that lacks a defined or structured shape. In the context of UFOs, an amorphous object would be one that does not fit any known geometric form or pattern, appearing undefined or without a clear structure.
Within the metamorphic and amorphous spectrum, we find a classic example: the Nellis Air Force Base Case.
In February 1995, the American TV program Hard Copy aired a video recording showing an unidentified object flying over a military testing area in North America. More footage was shown in December of the same year on the TV show Sightings. The video was apparently filmed by a high-tech Air Force surveillance camera at an undisclosed location within the Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range in Nevada (often simply called Nellis Test Range).
It is said that the video was smuggled by employees of a contractor operating tracking stations at the Nellis test site. Copies of the video were sold to Paramount Studios (producers of Hard Copy and Sightings) by a former Air Force employee who worked at the site, although he apparently did not personally witness the object.
Two sections of the video showing the UFO have come to light. The first section was filmed from a location known as S-30, according to the camera’s data display. It shows the object initially as an indistinct “blot” flying in front of a distant mountain range before turning and moving toward the camera’s location. The camera operator struggles to keep the object in frame as it approaches, and it quickly becomes clear that it cannot be identified. It resembles a blimp but has four distinct “lobes” and a dark area at the front. As it approaches, it turns toward the tracking station for several seconds, as if conducting surveillance, before turning and departing. This footage is particularly important because the voices of the camera operators at the tracking station can be heard in the noisy soundtrack. Their bewilderment at the UFO’s unexpected appearance is clearly audible. “What the hell is that?” one exclaims; “Where did it come from?” asks another.
The second section of footage was filmed about 40 minutes later from the camera location S-13. It shows the UFO as a small point on the horizon, moving away from the tracking camera. Although less visually striking, the soundtrack of this section is significant because controllers are heard simulating the launch of a missile at the object. However, the UFO remains visible, eventually disappearing into the realm of mystery and speculation surrounding the Nellis Test Range.
The footage was studied by ufology researchers and aviation experts, but so far no one has been able to provide an explanation for what the object is, how it is propelled, or how it is able to perform the maneuvers it is seen executing.
Since it occurred within the test range, the most likely explanation for the UFO would seem to be that it was an ultra-secret “black project” that, for some reason, was allowed to fly within view of the surveillance cameras. However, according to an anonymous source on the show Sightings, camera operators are not exposed to these new technology tests, with the camera lenses covered and the equipment turned off during such occasions.
No one knows the exact nature of these objects, their intentions, or their purposes. Many hypotheses have been proposed in an attempt to specifically explain and understand the phenomenon of these types of objects.
At the beginning of last year, investigative journalist Jeremy Corbell was responsible for releasing footage that became the subject of much debate and drew the world’s attention to exotic UFOs. The footage had been filmed at a U.S. operations base in Iraq and showed an amorphous UFO that was nicknamed the “jellyfish UFO” due to a slight resemblance to a jellyfish. In reality, it possesses an undefined and highly intriguing shape.

Metamorphic and amorphous UFOs, without a doubt, belong to the most enigmatic classes of UFOs.
The difficulty in finding genuine footage of these UFO manifestations is very high. The internet is full of videos and photographs of these mysterious and unsettling objects; however, the vast majority lack verification, provenance, and reliable sources, which makes studying them challenging. Below, I present some intriguing records that appear to show them.
The footage above was taken in May of this year in the Central Valley, California, on farmland outside Fresno. The witness, who appears to have little knowledge of UFOs, described the following:
“I think someone made a makeshift jetpack with balloons, a drone, and an office chair… UFO. At least it flew. It almost landed in the field, and when I noticed, it went back up into the sky and floated toward the mountains. This thing was huge. At first, I thought it was people in a hot air balloon having trouble or something. Then, I thought it was something with a bunch of strange balloons attached to it, but the balloons were flying up, up, up. This was controlled by something. I thought maybe it’s someone’s project or maybe something malicious, like spreading anthrax. It was weird; there was movement in this thing and a strange smoky glow around it, but I didn’t notice that until I looked at the photos.”
He also reports that there was no sound. The video was stabilized and slowed down 2x for better viewing.
The footage above was taken at some point in 2022, and the location is unknown. The witness provided the following description:
“I have no idea what this was. It came from the sun. It changes shape, changes color, and even responds to me at certain points. This is an edited version for a closer look. I filmed it with an iPhone 13 Pro and couldn’t zoom in as much as I wanted, but you can clearly see that it’s not a balloon or a bird.”
In the witness report, we see a complete description of a metamorphic-amorphous object, with changes in color and shape.
In the footage above, we can see a figure with a slightly humanoid appearance. I must admit that, in my view, it could be a very exotic balloon due to its flight path. However, the object seems to change shape; in fact, it does. We can see one form before it passes behind the tree and another afterward.
In the witness report, they describe the following:
“I was washing my driveway with a pressure washer this afternoon when I saw something strange. I’m expecting to be told I’m an idiot and that it’s a balloon, but it was moving against the wind, and the rotation and stability of the movement didn’t seem like a balloon. I don’t know much about UFO sighting history, so I wanted to reach out to this community to see if anything similar has been seen.”
The footage was taken in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) in April of last year and has been zoomed in and slowed down 4x for better viewing.
Regardless of the authenticity of these records or their true nature, they are out there! Numerous objects probe our skies daily, and if there is one class that intrigues the most, it is precisely the metamorphic one.

We do not know whether these are spacecraft, robots, biorobots, or even living beings. Some speculate that they are alien “probes,” while others say they are merely secret and exotic drones. In truth, we cannot say for certain.
Their flight characteristics do not seem anomalous; they appear to simply “float aimlessly.” But that does not imply that they are not unknown. After all, do we truly know how any UFO should behave?
Perhaps what we are seeing in these videos are just exotic balloons or modified drones used in a prank intended to deceive. In fact, these are the most logical hypotheses. However, when we add a witness account, we can gain a better understanding of what we are actually seeing.
It is not a rule, but the fact is that UFOs of various shapes and sizes glide, float, appear, and disappear in our skies every day. They change shape, color, hue, and more, leaving us intrigued and curious to know what lies within this “Pandora’s box” that manifests as a true “walking metamorphosis” in this spectacular phenomenon.
