The incident occurred on Route 210 in rural Currie, North Carolina. A man driving at night called 911 to report that he believed he had seen a bloodied person by the roadside, just after crossing the Black River.
In his later statement, the driver, identified only as “T,” detailed that the figure appeared to be a man in his 30s, wearing an old Civil War uniform, torn and completely covered in blood. Traveling at speeds between 55 and 60 miles per hour (approximately 88 to 96 km/h), he had difficulty clearly identifying what he saw in the darkness.
While still on the line with the 911 operator, the situation took a dramatic turn. The driver heard a loud impact on the back of his truck and, terrified, realized something had jumped onto the truck bed. The creature began pounding and scratching at the cab roof. He turned on the bed light, and what he saw left him frozen: a face “white as snow” pressed against the rear window.
He described the creature as having deep-set eyes, no nose or ears, with skin stretched thin over a human-like skull. Its limbs were disproportionately long, giving it an unnerving, unnatural appearance.

Panicked, the driver accelerated to about 80 mph (nearly 130 km/h) and then braked sharply. The maneuver caused the creature to be thrown over the cab and land on the asphalt.
Looking in the rearview mirror, the witness saw the creature rise. He stated it was incredibly tall—about 7 feet (over 2 meters)—with abnormally long arms and legs, before sprinting at high speed and disappearing into the dense forest bordering the roadway. Some locals later reported seeing unusual shadows in the same area, adding to the mystery.
The driver then went to a nearby gas station, where he met with deputies from the sheriff’s office and the State Highway Patrol. Inspection of the truck revealed scratch marks on the cab roof. Interestingly, no signs of blood or biological matter were found, further deepening the enigma.
Sheriff Alan Cutler of Pender County stated that the 911 recording is “very hard to listen to without getting a little nervous” and that it was clear the man calling was distressed.

The area where the incident occurred, near the Morris Creek National Battlefield, has a history of strange phenomena. The sheriff mentioned that, for years, locals have reported seeing lights hovering over the battlefield, hearing unexplained noises, and observing shadowy figures moving through the woods at night.
Some researchers have suggested that the region may have a concentration of unexplained aerial and terrestrial activity dating back decades.
Despite the involvement of multiple agencies, no trace of the alleged injured man was ever found, nor was the creature identified. Cutler concluded that this is likely “one of those mysteries of the world we may never have an answer for.”
The full story, including the chilling 911 call recording and a detailed interview with the driver and sheriff, was documented and investigated by the YouTube channel Carolina Case Files, shedding light on one of the most unsettling encounters in the county’s recent history.
