Recently, a mysterious video surfaced on social media showing explorers standing in front of what appears to be a massive “door” hidden in the Dzungarian Alatau mountains of Kazakhstan.
Looking like something straight out of an epic movie, the 30-second clip shows the explorers visibly stunned, seemingly trying to figure out a way to get inside the strange structure.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), one user claimed the formation was “proof of the existence of ancient aliens”, while another asked if there might be “a hidden alien spacecraft in there.”
Others took a more playful approach, comparing it to the opening of the first Tomb Raider game or to the Doors of Durin from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Some even noted its resemblance to the grand entrance of Jabba the Hutt’s palace in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The footage, also shared on Reddit, was reportedly filmed near the border between Kazakhstan and China.
Sitting at an altitude of about 2,000 meters (6,560 feet) above sea level, the Dzungarian Alatau mountains are known for their rugged foothills, sharp peaks, and ancient fortresses.

The video begins with a close-up shot of two explorers cautiously stepping through the snow in front of a massive rock wall.
Then, an aerial camera — likely attached to a drone — slowly zooms out, revealing a colossal semicircular formation that closely resembles a gigantic door.
Using the explorers’ height as a reference, the so-called “entrance” is estimated to be around 12 meters (40 feet) tall and roughly the same width.
However, the rock formation behind it appears to slope sharply downward, suggesting that if there is a hidden cave beyond it, the ceiling would likely be relatively low.
On Reddit, one user pointed out: “It looks like the ridge of the rock is narrower than the ‘door’ is tall.”
Another added with skepticism: “I mean, you can see the other side of the ridge in the drone shot. So, like… a door to what, exactly? The other side of the mountain?”
The video continues to spark heated debates online, dividing opinions between those who believe it could be an extraordinary archaeological discovery, those convinced it has extraterrestrial origins, and skeptics who argue it’s nothing more than a fascinating natural rock formation.

Commenters speculated about the true nature of the “door,” which has a slightly different brownish hue compared to the surrounding rock.
One user wrote: “There are tons of this kind of formation in southern Utah. It’s the beginning of an arch formation, which is completely natural.”
Another user jokingly replied: “So, ancient aliens.”
A Harry Potter fan added: “Run really fast and see if you make it to the other side,” while a gamer commented: “It’s the entrance to a Zelda dungeon!”
Another person posted: “If it really was a door, I’ve seen enough movies to know that something unspeakable has been sealed behind it.”
More realistically, the so-called “door” could simply be another case of pareidolia — the human mind’s tendency to perceive patterns and symmetry where none actually exist.
The location shown in the clip is believed to be part of the Dzungarian Gate, a historically significant mountain pass between China and Kazakhstan.
For centuries, the more than 4,800-kilometer (3,000-mile) route, also known as the Altai Gap, was used as an invasion corridor by conquerors from Central Asia.
The Dzungarian Gate has also been linked to the fabled land of Hyperborea, a mythical realm said to lie at the far northern edge of the known world.
According to legend, its inhabitants — the Hyperboreans — lived for 1,000 years each, in perfect peace, free from war and disease.
